IDX® Flowcast® Part III:
Making PCS Work for You

In the first and second parts of this series, we talked about the IDX Flowcast™ practice management system and how it supports strong front-end processes for capturing patient information. In this third and final installment, we'll look at how IDX Flowcast™ and the Paperless Collection System (PCS) module can support back-end processes that strengthen bottom line performance.

PCS has proven to be a great business office application for medical groups that use IDX Flowcast™. A comprehensive workflow tool, PCS simplifies in-house collections and supports the efficient management of accounts receivable. However, as with all sophisticated technology applications, the key to successfully using PCS is proper set-up and configuration. There are three issues—properly integrating PCS into the IDX Flowcast™ system, designing optimal business office processes, and developing staff knowledge and commitment.

Health Directions has worked with several organizations on effective PCS set-up and business process design. In our experience, a fully integrated PCS system can yield a cohesive follow-up process with many functional advantages:

Customized work files —properly designed work files streamline staff follow-up and collection activities.

Personalized action codes —PCS system tools support implementation of client-defined action codes along with standard IDX codes.

Automated follow-up reminders —automated ticklers remind staff of required follow-up activities to maximize the collection process.

Fast account resolution —taking advantage of electronic accounts receivable management, automated action code routines allow for quick resolution of invoices and accounts.

Better department communication —PCS integrated into operations supports a true electronic communication network within the business office and clinic operations.

Peak staff performance —PCS reporting tools enable monitoring of staff production and collection activities, facilitating better management of the collection process.

Full PCS integration can help your organization perform quicker, more accurate receivables management, keeping patient accounts from “falling through the cracks” and reducing claim denials. For hospitals and group practices, the results can be maximum staff productivity and increased collections.
